A Message From The Squadron Commander
Comrades, As the Post begins it's final quarter of 2009 and prepares to end another year of service to the community’s youth and veterans, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who supported Squadron 91's many events. Our recent Clambake was a success and each year attendance continues to grow. To that end, please plan to attend our upcoming Comedy Night in October. It is always a fun evening and we encourage you to come on out for a few hours, meet some new folks and lighten your day.
During those most important of Holidays, Labor Day, 911 and Veterans Day we of course will be out in the public eye attending festivities and parades to remember those who faithfully served for our freedom.
To our invaluable members of Squadron 91's Legion I’d like to encourage you to attend Post Business Meetings as often as you’re able, on the second Wednesday of the month. The more membership participation in the more mundane aspects of Post operations decision-making, as well as the higher profile activities, the better and more effective we become as an Organization. Finally, please always remember to be mindful of opportunities to to recruit a new member to our fold. Encourage any prospective Legion/Auxiliary members to take a look at our website – www.squadron91.com. Web sites have become almost a necessity in getting the word out regarding an organization and what it does. We’ve worked hard at organizing this and presenting the “fun side” of what we do, and we intend to find additional ways to keep current as well as prospective members informed. If you have any questions regarding Post activities, please email our webmaster. He will gladly get the word back to me and I will personally attend to all inquiries. For God and Country, John Craven Commander 2009

The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion. Together, members of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion make up what is known as The Legion Family. All three organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one bedroom home made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chiminey with presents to give and to see just whom in this house did live. I looked all about, a strange sight did I see. No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand. On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land, with medals and badges, awards of all kinds, a sober thought came to mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary. I had found the home of a soldier, once I could see. The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone, curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, the room in disorder, not how I pictured a United States soldier. Was this the hero of whom I'd just read? Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?
I realized the families that I saw this night, owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight. Soon round the world the children would play, and grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day.
They enjoyed freedom each month of the year, because of the soldiers, like the one lying here. I couldn't wonder how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.
The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice, "Santa don't cry, this is the life of my choice, I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more, my life is my God, my country, my corps."
The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, and continued to weep. I kept watch for hours, so silent and still, and we both shivered from the cold winter's chill.
I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night, this guardian of honor so willing to fight. Then the soldier rolled over, whispered with a voice soft and pure, "Carry on Santa, It's Christmas day and all is secure."
One look at my watch and I knew he was right,
"Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!"

Did you earn an Award?
 |
We need to work together to achieve our goals and promote the Sons of The American Legion, can we count on you?
Squadron membership has many rewards and post-war Organizations such as the American Legion, VFW, ELKS, etc typically see a decline in the number of people who join. However, we consider our Organization one that serves the public during all times - peacable and otherwise. In order to keep great Squadrons like ours going, some of our squadrons are struggling to stay afloat. So, what can we do to help them?
The National Membership Committee offers a recruitment pin award for those members recruiting five (5) new members into the Sons of The American Legion within a membership year. This pin is suitable to wear upon your cover or lapel. You must meet and complete the requirements listed below.
· Recruit five (5) new members into the S.A.L., no renewals
· All information must be clearly printed or typed. Non-readable forms will not be processed
· The new members membership record must be received at the Detachment and National Headquarters

· No Abbreviations. Information must be spelled out and complete
